Agent Jorge Sanchez-Santiago, 37

Puerto Rico Police Department

Agent Jorge Sanchez-Santiago was shot and killed on August 16, 2009, while transporting a prisoner to the jail. During a struggle the prisoner took the officer’s weapon and shot Agent Sanchez-Santiago once in the head. The officer is survived by his wife and children.

Deputy Sheriff Stephen (Mike) Gallagher, 34

Lewis County Washington Sheriff’s Office

Deputy Mike Gallagher died on August 18, 2009 from inuries he received in an automobile accident the previous night. He was responding to assist another deputty when his patrol car struck an elk and then crashed into a shed and utility pole. Deputy Gallagher leaves behind a wife and two small children.

Corporal Mike Roberts, 38

Tampa Florida Police Department

Corporal Mike Roberts was shot and killed while questioning a suspicious person pushing a shopping cart – a shopping cart that contained a hidden rifle and three handguns. Corporal Roberts is survived by his wife and three-year-old son.
