    I know a few officers who work in private prisons who’d disagree…they don’t like being called guards, either.

    Aside from the common useage, the term “guards” is offensive to most professionals. The correct title is “correctional officer.” I know. I worked with many of them for over 15 years. (Would not apply that term to those working in private, contract prisons where qualifications and training is much less.)
