Crank Up The Heat, Put On Shorts And Flip-Flops, And Come With Me!
We lived in Boston for a few years and, after shoveling and blowing mountains of snow while braving bitterly cold temperatures, we decided to head south, leaving many dear friends behind. Well, we’re thinking of all of you today as you dig out from Nemo’s wrath. Also, I thought I’d help out by giving you a few minutes away from the cold, drifting snow.
So, crank up the thermostats to 80, put on your best shorts, sunglasses, and flip-flops, and pretend you’re with me. Come on down!
I loved it in Hawaii. This time of year the weather is about like what we’ve had in Texas this February. Around highs of 70-80 and 50 degree nights. Lots of rain this time of year there usually. It is the rainy season. But I never needed more than a light jacket and didn’t miss bundling up which we sometimes have to do here in Texas. I loved the pictures, I’ve heard of the gators wandering up to visit in Florida.
Lee, of course there are always challenges. And we’ve been lucky with our first 3 winters–my Honda Fit still gets me where I go 98% of the time (and Hubsters 4WD pickup is there when it can’t). Besides, I’m a writer. I’m inside writing most of the time. And since I don’t have a day job commute beyond a stroll down the hall, I can enjoy all the positives–like watching wildlife from my window (not gators, but we’ve had bears in the yard)
I was all set to be jealous, too, until I saw the gator, and then thought of all the poisonous snakes in the southeast. Let’s see: mosquitos or coral snakes? I’ll take mosquitos.
Well, this one was directed more to the folks in the northeast who often get the nor’easters that bring hurricane force winds, sideways and thunder snow, coastal flooding, downed trees, and snowfalls that leave people stranded on major highways due to such rapid and heavy snowfalls. The last year we lived in Boston I remember people having to be rescued from I95 because their cars were buried in snow as they attempted to drive home from work.
This weekend, I believe Nemo slammed them pretty doggone hard.
But I’ll bet life in the mountains has its own unique challenges.
Lee, I left the hot and sticky for the mountains and so far haven’t regretted it for a minute. We’ve hardly had any snow at all, so we’ve got the best of everything. Sure, we won’t always be this lucky, but in Florida, I spent more days avoiding going out in the miserable heat–I though of them as my “snow days” and there were a LOT more of them than real snow days here so far.

I was thinking of heading south until I saw that pic of your pet leg ripper. I’ll take snow over ‘gators in the back yard any old day. 🙂
